Show Stealer

Tyler wanted to get a series of photos with Ginger for a few dog photo contest he's planning to enter this month. Rona, however; had other plans. Rona is the Alpha dog of our home, forcing Ginger into the corners and crannies, while she sprawls lazily on piles of satin pillows - not really, but you get the picture. She'll take the big dog bed and leave Ginger to endlessly circle around Rona's tiny dog pillow, trying in vain to find the perfect position to squeeze into one square foot. So, this photo is pretty typical...you call Rona for her walk and she won't come, but give Ginger a little attention and lo and behold, she's all yours. Just try to plan a Rona photo; it's impossible - but this method works too...

ISO 100 f/9 1/200s 1 SB-26 @ 50mm full power with 1/2CTO ( I think the batteries must be low, I should have got more power out the flash, but this is what I got).

The Love that Dare Not Speak its Name

You know - between a cat and a dog....This is Pico. He and Ginger have been having a little orange love fest for about 3 years. Things are a little rocky these days, however, as Pico has acquired access to the outside world (i.e. ripped a hole in our screen porch) and now keeps the schedule of an angsty teen - out all night returning only to raid the proverbial fridge and crash on the couch.



Lighting Info:D90 set to f/5.6 aperture priority with an exposure bias of -1 stop. Subject lit with 1 SB-800 flash,in the left hand, set to TTL +1 stop. . Tyler chose +1 stop for this photo because Pico's fur is 1 stop above middle-grey, and leaving the camera in full automatic would have under exposed this image making Pico look brownish orange.

Frienemy #1

This is Rona. You can see that Ginger is in the background being overshadowed as usual by this little beast. Ginger - Friend to All- knows naught of such ideas as 'frienemies'; she does not realize that Rona only cuddles up to her when it is cold; that Rona is only eschewing her usually snaps and snarls on this evening because of a thunderstorm, which she rightly supposes will strike down the taller of the two. Ginger only knows that tonight, Rona cares to be close, and that's enough for her.

This photo was shot with a 28mm wide angle lens using Redscale film Tyler made from Kodak Gold 400. Used a Nikon N75 with an exposure bias of plus 2 stops and aperture of f/2.8.
